Development of 4 geothermal power plants in the region with an installed capacity of 300 MW in total, e.g. 150 MW in Tendaho/Ethiopia (in negociaton for Export to Djibouti), 30 MW in Rwanda/Virunga Volcano on the border to DRC, 60 MW in Kenya/Silali, 60 MW in Kenya/Longonot.
The ITF grant will be used for the following:
- Drilling of exploration wells at the most promising geothermal prospects to assist developers secure finance for subsequent exploration or appraisal wells.
- Surface studies to determine the optimal location of exploration wells at the most promising geothermal prospects.
- Development of regional geothermal database of prospects in the region.
- Pre-application training workshops for developers.
- Support to AUC for management of the project.
